Little do we know, there are a lot of other great singers out there, oftentimes overlooked because they are hidden in the shadows. It’s either they’re not discovered yet or they haven’t performed on a big stage with spotlights on.

Some of them are even singing in subways, just like this humble man who performed a classic hit, and wowed over 7.5 million (and counting) people on the internet.

His name is Mike Yung, the man who rose to stardom after a subway performance.

Mike Yung is an American singer from New York City. He was first known for his impeccable version of “Unchained Melody” which he did in a subway station.

After going viral, he joined the Season 12 of America’s Got Talent. He made it all the way to the semifinals round but unfortunately got eliminated for not getting enough votes.

He returned for AGT: The Champions 2, he performed an original song “I’m a Dreamer” which he wrote with Dutch DJ/producer Martin Garrix. He got a standing ovation from Heidi Klum but did not receive enough votes from the Superfans, resulting in him being eliminated in the preliminary round.

Though he didn’t become a champion, Yung sure went far from just being a singer in the subway.

Enough of history, let’s go back to where it all started.

Back when he has not yet graced the stage of America’s Got Talent, Yung was just a humble public performer, and this particular video opened up a lot of doors of opportunities for him.

Was he really good? This video has the answer!

Backed with a set of drums and a guitarist, Mike prepares to fly high on his version of “Unchained Melody” by the Righteous Brothers. Wasting no time, he immediately belts the first note of the song, and oh, how powerful is that?

And for the record, he is not using a microphone!

It’s such powerful vocals from a middle-aged man like him, honestly, he can still put a lot of youngsters into shame when it comes to singing competitions, wouldn’t you agree? Who would’ve thought that such a talented man like him exists and is performing down in a subway?

He soon fills the entire subway with his beautiful voice.

As the song progresses, this talented guy impressively continues with what he does best, and that is to entertain people. Little by little, people come close to pour their donations down, and Mike right here is very appreciative of everyone who shares their blessings with them, whether it’s a huge amount or small.

Can you throw a mid-word thumbs up?

Even when the subway becomes all rowdy and noisy, Yung continues to impress everyone with his vocal calisthenics, nailing every run, low, and high notes of the song. Though some of the commuters are minding their own businesses that day, there are still some who stick around and watch Mike perform.

One YouTube user actually noticed this too:

“Funny how people walk right by….a voice like that would stop me dead in my tracks!!!!soooooo much soul!!!”

While this one shared something deep:

“What a world we live in, where the soul and heart are shunned to the subways while the corporations fill our radios with artificial celebrities. I come back to this video every now and then to help restore my faith.”
