Lockdown due to Covid-19 has been derailing everyone’s plans around the world. People who were planning weddings, celebrating birthdays, and looking forward to graduation are all taking a big hit.
Birthdays are especially tough if you are in quarantine by yourself. The last thing you probably want to do is sit alone inside, unable to see any friends or family.
But this committed dad knew that his daughter’s birthday was coming up, and he wasn’t just about to let it fall to the wayside.
His dad wanted to celebrate his daughter on her big day and even though there were many restrictions and time limits, he was dedicated to making it happen.
This dad drove over a thousand miles roundtrip just so that he could spend a half-hour with his special girl and wish her a very happy birthday.
We would have to say that all of the mileage and time 57-year-old Julio Cesar Segura put into it was worth it. His time spent driving totaled at 17 hours as he drove across Texas, from El Paso to Austin and then all the way back, all to spend some quality time with his child, now 19-years-old, Diana Segura Lerma, on May 8.
To celebrate the big one-nine, the two enjoyed a socially distant lunch together and while they were working on limited time, it was still very sweet.
Julio, who works as a realtor, spent 8 and a half miles driving each way. This came out to be 1,152 miles.
The whole thing was a surprise, which makes it even more special.
Diana had no clue what was happening when her father called to wish her happy birthday over the phone. He simply pretended that he was out at Chik-Fil-a ordering a chicken sandwich — also known as Diana’s favorite fast-food lunch. How cruel!
“He told me that since he couldn’t do much he wanted to know what I’d like for lunch and he would send an Uber Eats order. So I texted him what I wanted — the chicken fillet sandwich with pepperjack cheese, buffalo sauce, and mayonnaise,” Lerma told Good News Network.
“He brings me that sandwich for lunch on my birthday every year — so far, he hasn’t missed a year,” she continued.
Well, if he has never missed a year, you have to wonder: Will he really let a silly thousand miles get in the way of ruining this beautiful streak? No big deal!
Little did Lerma know that her dad had woken up at 3:30 a.m. to get on the road and drive himself over.
“I left my house at 4:15 a.m. I was missing her and I wanted to give her a surprise. I decided to go the day before. I love her and I wanted to make sure she had a good birthday,” Segura said.
Is this not the best dad ever?
Later on, Lerma’s bell rang. She naturally thought it was the delivery man for her food. But it was an even better surprise — it was her dad.
“He showed up with the food and a poster board and balloons. I was so excited. I haven’t seen him in months, since winter break. I didn’t think that I would see him again until August,” Lerma said.
“He has always been someone who loves gestures, but I never imagined he would do this in a pandemic.”
So then they went on to eat lunch on a little terrace while they sat in two chairs very far apart, honoring the social distance rules.
“I was the driving the whole day but I was so happy on the way back. She deserved a good birthday,” Segura added.
Yep, he’s the best dad ever.
