Since the quarantine, DIY products have taken the internet by storm. The wave of projects has inspired a multitude of people to make their own eccentric creations. From small trinkets to large furnishings, there’s no limit to what you can manifest. That is until you take the limit to its breaking point and go full-on home repair mode.
Susie Levache from Kent, United Kingdom decided to take her daughter, Bea Levache, under her wing.
Susie is a DIY veteran that specializes in home renovations. Due to the lockdown, her daughter became naturally inquisitive about her hobby and she decided to teach her the ropes.
“During the lockdown she was complaining of being bored whilst I was trying to catch up on some home renovations and updates,” said Susie. “To ‘teach her a lesson’ I asked her to measure up a wall for me that I was going to panel. I then showed her how to use the workbench and the handsaw and before I knew it, she had completed the paneling in my office alone.”
Levache taught her daughter what any sensei would: that patience and diligence are key.
She instructed her to dismiss time as if it was against her and just let her mind work with ease. This allowed Bea to work without any tension nor stress as she became more comfortable with honing her craft.
“She now uses the handsaw, spirit level, electric drill, sander, and tile cutter confidently,” said Susie. “She even had a go at stenciling and her next project is to renovate her brother’s room using some carpentry skills.”
Her mom says that Bea is extremely detailed when it comes to her talent.
She is extremely precise with her usage of mechanical tools. In contrast, Susie describes her style as ‘slapdash’. The student proved master when Bea impressed her mom with her own spin on things.
As a result of the lockdown and lack of supplies, the young grasshopper suggested they paint the cupboards in a darker tone to mismatch the others. As it turns out, it was a marvelous idea!
The rustic colors really accentuate the organic vibes of kitchen reno.
Bea was proving to be a unique visionary talent at only 12 years of age!
Levache is known to recycle and repurpose her DIY materials for decorations. It’s her way of giving back and helping to reduce consumption as much as possible.
“I love to reuse and to repurpose and I like this process to be circular, not linear, so I have quite a stash of old handles, old frames, tired old broken furniture in my shed along with paint I have from previous jobs.”
“In terms of our budget, it was actually very little because we already had timber, glue, paints, and old handles, etc, so in real terms, we spent about $100-150 on extra items.” Susie commented. “But everything else, we either raided the attic or painted stuff from other rooms to give it a new lease on life. We had a really productive week and did countless rooms in about 10 days and we are still going.”
Susie and Bea Levache are happy and excited to know that they are the source of inspiration for so many mom’s, wives, and kids internationally. Their commitment to changing their environment with the tools at their disposal has inspired so many like them to pursue projects that will boost their confidence.
