The age-old rivalry between cats and dogs began long before they were domesticated animals. Studies by researchers from the University of Lausanne in Switzerland and the University of Sao Paulo shows that some 20 million years ago, cats and dogs were already on each other’s throats for food.

This ancient rivalry has spawned many cartoons and television shows depicting these two animals constantly fighting each other.

Fast forward to today, and it seems like a truce has been reached.

Can I have a kiss?

It would seem that way for a ginger kitten rescued by her loving family. Little Koda was only a month old when he was brought home. Fitting in the palm of his owner’s hand, this little fur ball found an instant friend with Keelo, an adult Golden Retriever.

Like a toddler to a parent, or a little brother to his big brother, little Koda will play around and around and even on Keelo even though this gentle giant is trying to sleep. Keelo definitely doesn’t mind.

Perfectly fine when I’m with you.

Koda will snuggle and cuddle until Keelo responds with affection. You can even see the little ginger attempting to give what looks like a kiss!

And what good guardian does not return the favor?

And what about during playtime?

You would think that Koda would shy away from the challenge given the size difference, but no. Koda’s got spunk! After all, this little one has nine lives under his furry belt! Bring it on, Keelo!

The challenger, fighting out of the orange corner!

These two give new meaning to the classic saying, “They fight like cats and dogs.”

Imagine how gentle big Keelo must be! There must be so much love in that furry heart of his for him not to end up squashing Koda. There is no denying the fondness these two have for each other.

Supposedly sworn enemies to the bitter end? Not even close.

Let’s see how many likes we can get!

This is definitely one golden connection. You would think that because cats are usually loners and dogs are pack animals, a bond would be near impossible to establish. It is so heartwarming to see your best friends become best friends with each other.

“However rare true love may be, it is less so than true friendship.” – Albert Einstein

By nature, dogs will chase anything smaller than them. This almost always includes cats. But there are instances of cats chasing dogs as well.

Proper nurturing is the key. Constant supervision and an understanding of how these two different animals behave will help develop their characters, and hopefully, foster a lasting bond. Just look at this orange team of tenderness!

These two are constant proof that cats and dogs can coexist.

Sharing is caring

Hours and hours of rough and tumble play before getting tired and curling up next to each other is as natural as breathing for Koda and Keelo.

And when it’s lunch time, why have two separate dishes when they can share one bowl?

As a matter of fact, Koda and Keelo share everything under their owner’s roof. After all, there’s always space when there is love!

And perhaps these two fur buddies are inviting you to check out their accounts, and while there, leave a heart and say hello.

Watch their adorable friendship below. It will melt your heart in a puddle.
