Have you ever felt like you can’t breathe in your own home? Ever felt it’s too small for you? You would be happier if it had one more bedroom or bathroom or even a larger kitchen? What about a bigger backyard, too?

Well, if all these thoughts sound familiar, then you probably couldn’t live in Luke Clark Tyler’s tiny New York home.

While Tyler had been living in New York City on and off for nine years, it was not until 2010 when he decided to rent a place and stay there for good and enjoy the good life the Big Apple can offer.

Tyler, who was 27 at the time, is an interior designer with prior experience in tiny home living.

While he had been living in a slightly bigger- 96 sq ft- apartment before renting the tiny place, he had also lived in an even smaller mud house in Kenya for a while.

This experience was what had prepared him for practically any size home, and that’s why he did not hesitate when he saw the listing on Craigslist. He would go take a look at the 78sq ft apartment because, I mean, why not?

“I found it on Craigslist. I think it called it a studio, which… I don’t know if it qualifies as a studio,” he told SPACEStv with a laugh.

He soon made up his mind and decided to rent the place. After all, it was “only” $750, which is half the price he would be asked to pay for a normal-sized studio.

Of course, this decision of his and the way he designed the interior of the apartment to suit his lifestyle made the news at the time.

As Tyler explained, when he first got into the apartment it was a white shell. This helped him visualize what he wanted to do with it and made it easier to put his plan into action.

“When I moved into this place, it was just a white shell,” he told SPACEStv. “That sort of helped me more easily establish what I would do with the place.”

So, he first went to a home improvement store and bought everything he would need to turn the rectangular mini room into a cozy and practical home.

As you can see in the pictures, Tyler has added a bed in his room that can be folded up and work as a sofa for him and his friends when they come over.

The desk next to the bed was essential because Tyler used to work from home at the time so his home had to work as a home office, too.

A clever detail was the addition of a mirror over the desk, so it would give the place the illusion of depth and he wouldn’t get tired of working opposite a wall all the time.

Finally, the closet works as a storage space for all his stuff- from clothes to towels even a microwave.

Only drawback? The shared, dorm-like bathroom. But still, he managed to find the positive side of that since his apartment, at least, was super close to the bathroom, which is a plus when you need to carry your stuff with you every time you visit it.

Tyler’s apartment is a pleasant surprise and a reminder that we don’t need much in life to be happy!
