Man deemed “chillest dude in America” after ceiling falls on him and he continues to watch tv
I only wish I was this easy-going when things literally fall apart. I can't believe how calm he stayed.

What would you do if the “skies fell down” on you?

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where everything came crashing down? How did you respond to that?

Probably not like Robert Gongora would.

When danger comes, a switch in our bodies flips to activate certain instincts like fight or flight. There are also times we freeze – or freeze’s more positive cousin “chill”.

Gongora was watching TV.

Then the unexpected happened. He was lounging on his lazy boy and had the TV on when a sound of a crack was heard.

Then, all of a sudden, the ceiling right above him fell down on top of him.

Gongora found himself buried.

He was covered by a layer of sheetrock, as shown in pet camera footage from their home. You can see only his feet popping out through the pile of ceiling plaster.

You can even see that in the split second before the ceiling fell, his dog Chuck sensed what was about to happen before jumping out of the way.

He missed the ceiling by almost a fraction of a second.

Gongora sat still.

Still lying on his chair unmoving, his arms pop out from the mound and begin clearing the debris from his face and eyes.

Then, after he did so, he continued watching TV while his body – from the neck down – was blanketed with sheet rock.

The internet loved it.

Because of this, the internet dubbed him the “Chillest Dude in America”.

In his interview with Inside Edition, Gongora said that he wasn’t hurt at all. His girlfriend was folding laundry at the time of the incident.

She also agreed with the netizens’ perception of her boyfriend. She said you can’t even know if he was excited.

It was the AC

He claims that a leaky air conditioner was to blame. It would take around a full minute before Gongora finally dug himself out of the rubble.

Another funny thing was that, given the size of their living room, the spot right above Gongora was the only thing that gave out.

If it was coincidence or just dumb bad luck, we’ll never know. In any case, Gongora just quietly stood up, brushed off the dust, and gave a mighty sneeze.

Not a scream, not a quick shuffle, not even a jump off his seat.

Even so, it was not enough to separate Gongora from his TV. Inside Edition asked Gongora what was so riveting about the show on TV.

He was watching the news.

He said that he was getting ready to watch a segment when the ceiling crashed down. At the time of the incident, the increase in housing rates was on TV.

Maybe their house isn’t that bad after all.

Never a good time to panic.

He shared that his calm demeanor came from childhood trauma. Some people would’ve flailed and panicked at that moment but not Gongora.

He said that panicking will only make things worse as he learned when he almost drowned when he was a child.
