Working a second job is great if you want to boost your income. However, being effective and efficient in both jobs isn’t easy. You have to plan your time well if you want to be successful.

Monique Brown knows the struggle of working two jobs very well.

She’s a worker at Acme cleaners during the day and Home Depot at night. She told WZZM 13:

“Between the two jobs, I often put in 14 hour workdays. It’s been a challenege but I always get to both jobs on time.”

Monique used to own a car.

Unfortunately, it broke down. This forced her to use Uber to get to work. At times, she asked her friends to drive her. And when she’s left with no other option, she walked to work.

One day, she met Bob Scolnik, the Muskegon County Commissioner.

He went to her place of work to bring his laundry. There, he was able to get to know Monique better.

Bob shared:

“I found her to be super likable. One day, she started talking to me about the fact that I was now chair of the finance committee for the county with a big budget and that I needed to remember the working people and that struck a chord with me.”

The two shared stories with each other.

Monique got to tell Bob about how her car broke down and that she’s working two jobs. He was amazed at how the woman was able to make it to both jobs on time despite what happened.

Bob said:

“I sensed a good person in her and I felt the need to help her. I decided I wanted to try and get her a new car.”

Bob came up with an excellent plan.

On his Facebook page, he created a post sharing what he intended to do. There, he started a fundraising campaign.

He planned to match the first $1,000. After the first two weeks, more people sent their help. And by January 16, he was able to collect as much as $7,000.

Knowing that he had enough money to buy a car for Monique, he proceeded to do the second part of his plan.

He shared with WZZM 13:

“I was able to find a private owner who was selling a 2008 Honda Civic Coup, so I bought it.”

Bob couldn’t figure out why he was doing all of those things.

And he didn’t mind. For him, helping the woman was all that mattered at that time.

He got ready for the special day.

Bob took the car to Auto Spa for a shine and detail. To finalize its look, he even got a big pink bow on it.

Then, the big day arrived.

Bob came to pick up Monique. She had no idea about the plan and that made him feel even more excited.

When they arrived, Bob opened the garage door.

As it was opening, he told Monique that it was her new car. It left her teary-eyed but smiling ear to ear.

Monique got inside the car.
