Your job is important, for pro athletes that job also includes being criticized for decisions you make. Daniel Hudson is a player in the MLB who recently had a baby. When he decided to skip a playoff game, some fans on social media criticized the new father.

For Daniel Hudson, the choice was easy, in fact, it wasn’t even a choice. He knew, missing his daughter’s birth wasn’t an option. The critics didn’t matter to him, and seeing the birth of his daughter meant the world to him.

“I knew I was going to go no matter what.” Hudson went on to say: “I was like, ‘I can’t be the only person to have a baby in the middle of the postseason.’ And for it to blow up as it did, man, it’s kind of crazy. But I didn’t really give much thought about not going. My family is top priority for me.”

The decision was easy for Hudson, the only thing he was worried about, was his daughter being born.

Daniel’s wife, Sara, gave birth to a healthy little girl named Millie, in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was right there by her side to welcome his baby girl into the world.

Many of the critics, were the keyboard warriors on social media, sitting behind a computer screen spreading negativity. David P Sampson posted to Twitter saying:

“Unreal that Daniel Hudson is on paternity list and missing game 1 of . Only excuse would be a problem with the birth or health of baby or mother. If all is well, he needs to get to St. Louis. Inexcusable. Will it matter?”

Not everyone was critical of the decision, many people went to bat for dedicated father.

Although there were a lot of people who disapproved of Hudsons decision to miss the game, there is a new policy put in place for players to get paternity leave when they have babies.

Other players sympathized with Hudson, after all, they won the game anyway! The Nationals won the playoff game 2-0, with Hudsons teammate, Sean Doolittle, closing out the game. Doolittle was one of the people going to bat for Hudson, he was clear what he thought about the critics in a statement.

“If your reaction to someone having a baby is anything other than, ‘Congratulations, I hope everybody’s healthy,’ you’re an a-hole,” Doolittle told reporters.
