Having birds as pets is often slept on. Honestly, what other pet can literally talk back and ask how your day at work was? They can be hilarious and sweet and usually take care of themselves most of the time. They can form true relationships and remember people, too!
Two parakeet brothers were caught on camera having a hilarious conversation.
The green parakeet is named Fabio and the blue one is Gabriel. Despite being born a year apart, the two “brothers” are inseparable friends. They are Indian ring-necked parakeets and stay at home with their owner, Ashley, and her other birds, Abaddon, Mojo, and Jojo.
According to Ashley, Fabio and Gabriel are the most popular pair on the internet, and they already have fans waiting to see more of their silly adventures on YouTube.
Is there a difference between parakeets and parrots?
Before we get to the story, let’s first discuss parakeets and parrots. Both are often confused with each other since these birds could mimic sounds skillfully. However, these birds should not be considered two separate species as one of them is only a sub-species of the other. Parrots have over 300 existing species, and apparently, parakeets are one of them. This specific species is described as medium-sized parrots with long tail feathers.
The two brothers love talking and “smooching” all day.
One video of Fabio and Gabriel that caught everyone’s attention was an old clip from 2016. They were standing on top of their cage, roaming around and enjoying their home’s scenery. Ashley just heard the two of them talking to each other and decided to grab her camera to capture the moment.
When Fabio saw Ashley with her camera he asked her, “What are you doing?”! Now that’s one smart bird! While Fabio was talking, Gabriel was behind trying to peck at his brothers noggin.
They would sit there and “smooch” back and forth, saying “I Love You” over and over. Fabio seems to be more affectionate but Gabriel is happy to be cuddly when the fancy strikes him!
It’s crazy that the birds are smart enough to understand language.
Birds with language skills are super skilled in mimicking sounds in their environment. Even though it often starts off as a simple mimicking, they can usually learn the associated meaning as they spend more time with it.
You can see an example of this when they “smooch”. They make a noise just like a kiss and lean in with their heads and beaks. They are basically giving a kiss and making the noise themselves! It’s their way of showing affection to the birds and the people they care for. It’s definitely more than just copying noises!

The brothers have their own distinct personalities, which makes them always fun to watch. Gabriel is cool yet tries to hide his feelings toward his brother while Fabio is the affectionate one that would always give his brother kisses and kind words any chance he gets.
