In early September, a pregnant pit bull named Mama Pickles was found wandering around alone in the streets. Some local rescue organizations knew she needed some help and reached out to her previous owners. Her owners had decided that they didn’t want her anymore and left her at the shelter.
Mama Pickles was so pregnant that the shelter was not able to provide for her. There were no foster families in the area for her to stay with and the shelter worried that they would have to put her down.
Fortunately, she was found by Pits & Giggles Rescue, a non-profit organization that specializes in the care of pregnant dogs and their newborn pups. Mama Pickles was very happy at her new home and made a lot of new dog friends. Lauren Casteen, a photographer and volunteer for Pits & Giggles said in an interview that:
“Pits & Giggles Rescue has a mission like no other. They specialize in Maternity rescue and care. They save pregnant and nursing mama dogs from shelter and provide them with the care they need to bring their babies safely into the world. Prior to adoption, Mama and all puppies are fixed and are placed in the best homes according to their personality and needs! Photographing these mamas and their babies give them the exposure they need to get adopted!”
Lauren is actually the photographer for all the photos in this article and the photographer for many of the dogs at Pits & Giggles. She says that she knew she had to give Mama Pickles a maternity photoshoot as soon as she saw the dog. Of course, the results are adorable.
Mama Pickles has some impressive modeling talent. She must have reached down into her inner diva to strike some of these poses. The pregnant belly only adds to the beautiful photos, even if it did cause some goofy clumsiness on the part of the dog. Photographer Lauren says that Mama Pickles was loving all the attention and affection. She also says that the hardest part of the shoot was getting the dog to stop licking them! She was too excited to stay still for a photo, even when she was still, her tail kept wagging!
After the first photoshoot with pregnant Mama, she gave birth to a beautiful litter of puppies. There are eight (8) pups total and they all look so adorable. Mama Pickles got a follow-up shoot with all her puppies. She looks like such a proud mother and is so cute sitting next to her puppies. The rescuers at Pits & Giggles say that she is already a great mother and takes wonderful care of her little babies.
Of course, the puppies got their own photoshoot too. They kind of look like little burritos laying down on top of the picnic basket. I hope they all grow up to be as wonderful as Mama Pickles
