Blue jeans are the one item that the majority of people, men, and women, have in common in their closets. As a matter of fact, jeans are the top one pick when it comes to clothing and shopping. Why? It’s because they are suitable for all the seasons and you can create different combinations for different occasions just by using the same pair of jeans.

They can be worn at your workplace or during the evening at a social outing. Basically, we could call them the “staple” of clothes! Nowadays, you can find different brands at different prices, some of them totally inexpensive.

For those unfamiliar with the history of jeans, they are pants made from denim or dungaree cloth. They were invented back in 1873 by Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss and they were worn mainly by male workers. Although Jeans started as “working clothes,” later they became symbols of disobedience and were identified with the younger generations.

So, unsurprisingly one would ask if we wear Jeans so much, how often should we actually wash them? And, is there a specific way to wash them to make them last longer? Well, since you have asked…jeans would be good to be washed after the 5th wear, although Levi’s recommends to try and wash them after the 10th. Apparently, the longer you wear them, the better it is as they will eventually “take” the shape of your body, pretty much like molding your figure.

The experts also recommend that you wash them, turned inside out, in cold water, and use a mild detergent. Once they are washed, the jeans should be allowed to air dry and never put in the dryer.

Washing them less also helps the material to last more without fraying prematurely or losing its original color. In case of a stain, like an ink smudge or a drop of oil, there is no need to use the washing machine, you just need to apply a little detergent and water on the spot, and that will be enough.

If for any reason, you find your favorite pair of denim just deteriorating, without any chance of salvation, think outside the box and instead of throwing them away, recycle the fabric and use it for something else.

Jeans are made of sturdy and good quality material, so why not take advantage of that and create something new, like a pillowcase or a shopping bag out of the salvaged fabric. Online you will find various DIY tutorials with many creative ideas!
