A Lucky Tale

Adoption can be a difficult endeavor, yet powerfully satisfying if done carefully and willingly. Most who are on the receiving end of adoption develop to have physical or mental problems from abandonment that it’s sometimes hard to recover past all the tough moments left alone.

A woman by the name of Gina was not discouraged by any of this when she went out horseback riding and saw a cage with a small dog inside in the woods. Gina then took pictures of the small doggie and put them up on Facebook until she was contacted by her co-worker about having someone come over and picking up the dog. And thus began the incredible tale of a dog named Lucky.

A group based in Florida called GTS husky rescue dogs like malamutes and huskies who have been abandoned for whatever cause. As soon as Lucky arrived, she was friendly towards everyone. She desired belly rubs and ear scratches. Off the bat, Kaylin from GTS noticed that Lucky had abnormally short front legs and it clearly impeded her everyday walk.

Kaylin went and received medical advice on how to proceed. After reviewing the X-ray, it was recommended that Lucky not get the surgery because of the fragile condition they were in and the possibility of harming her even more.

Learning The Ropes

As a result, Kaylin and the group went through with small prosthetic legs to aid Lucky in her development. When Lucky first used her new prosthetic equipment, she disliked them very much and was confused to wear them whenever instructed.

Now, Lucky is able to wear them with ease and is doing an excellent job using the prosthetics to walk! The ranch director, Cory, took Lucky in as a foster dog and was given time with his other dogs in order to learn how to play and become friendly towards other doggies.

There were not very many applications going through for Lucky, as it required a very special applicant to be knowledgeable of Lucky’s special needs and wants. An application from a woman named Jesse came in and given her background in helping children with special needs, she fit the bill as the proper candidate for Lucky. When the two met each other, it went off without a hitch. Jesse was extremely patient and loving towards Lucky and she reciprocated the same sentiments for Jesse.

Lucky’s New Home

Lucky became companions with Jesse’s roommate’s dog, Stella, who is a very friendly black Labrador. Stella treats Lucky with a kind heart and they both get along great. Lucky and Stella very frequently play around with each other and have shared many bonding moments together. Not only that, but Stella doesn’t seem to be bothered when Lucky uses her toys!

Jesse’s hope for Lucky would be for her to become a therapy dog to help children overcome some of their unfortunate conditions. Lucky has done a tremendous job in recovering herself both physically and mentally.

After 2 weeks with Jesse, her behavior stayed very calm and sweet. Much of the success can be attributed to the wonderful foster care that was given by professional caretakers who truly cared for Lucky’s wellbeing.

Adoption is not easy in any way and takes a great amount of responsibility to take that challenge on. We’re excited for Lucky’s bright future and can without a doubt say that she has found her forever home with Jesse.
