“Be the change that you wish to see in the world” – Mahatma Ghandi

Ismaël Essome Ebone

This young Cameroonian, who’s only 28 years old, has found a unique, effective, and amazing way of recycling plastic waste through the construction of fishing boats!

Ismael Essome was raised in the coastal region of Cameroon. Here, fishing wasn’t as profitable as it was before. This was due to the pollution caused by plastic.

At a very young age – his eyes were opened to the growing problem of his community and even the world.

Due to the challenge of earning a living, most of their young people were forced to move to cities to find alternative work.

He was trained as an environmental engineer just after two years of working as a social officer and green business and innovation developer.

He later founded Madiba & Nature in 2016. It’s a local NGO that aims to address the issue of plastic pollution.

Madiba & Nature

Madiba & Nature is a non-profit organization that aims to promote the circular economy to ensure the conservation of nature along with its biodiversity. Their vision includes awareness – because through an environmental education system, they would be able to educate people and later change their attitudes and bad habits.

As part of this young man’s endeavor, Ismael also invented the “Ecobin.”

The Ecobin is a big recycle bin that is used to collect plastic waste, from there; they can start to facilitate the installation of the first sorting system of plastic in Douala.

If there’s the “Ecobin”, there is also the “Ecoboat”, it’s a cheaper alternative to a fishing boat but is made out of plastic bottles.

Amazing idea – now a reality!

They aim to support a community in need of work and even boats by cultivating livelihood income. It also helps by supporting ecotourism programs on the beaches with Ecoboats.

At his very young age, his plans were on point and were coming true.
