That angry mom look.

We’ve all seen it before — you know what I’m talking about — that ANGRY MOM LOOK. That look that will stop you in your tracks. That look that, even as a young child, you knew meant there was going to be trouble if you didn’t get yourself in line, and quickly.

Dog moms have that angry mom look too!

The look on the mom and the puppies’ faces in this video is priceless. Mom is thinking, “you’ve got to be kidding me.” One puppy is thinking, “uh oh, I think we’re in trouble now.” The other puppy is thinking, “it wasn’t my fault, he started it!”

Sibling rivalry.

Anyone with siblings can relate to the puppies in this video. The puppy on the left clearly starts the fight, then whimpers the loudest, as if crying out “he started it” when mama catches them and gives them that angry mom look.

Mama’s not a fool.

But check out mama beagle! She’s not fooled at all. She knows exactly which of her puppies started the fight, and she puts them in their place quickly and efficiently.

It’s all a part of puppyhood.

You can tell by mama beagle’s exhausted face that this is not the first puppy squabble she has had to referee today. Just like children’s squabbling, puppy squabbling teaches socialization skills that these puppies will need throughout their lives.

By watching this video, it’s easy to fear that these puppies are not just playing, but that they are fighting. As rough as it looks and sounds, there is no need to worry, these healthy beagle puppies are just playing.

Puppies play by chasing each other, wrestling, biting each other, and grunting and barking at one another. The fact that both puppies’ tails are wagging excitedly is a good sign that they are only playing! The nipping at each other’s ears and pulling each other across the room also indicate that the puppies are playfully challenging one another.

If you have ever brought multiple puppies into your home, then I’m sure you can relate to how mama beagle is feeling in this video.

The chaotic puppy play can appear overwhelming and extremely loud, but mama beagle should be overjoyed that her puppies are healthy!

Mama dogs know how to communicate with their puppies.

For the majority of mama dogs, raising puppies comes instinctually. Mama dogs know how to keep their puppies clean from the moment they are born, how to nurse them, move them around to keep them warm, and, as seen in this video, keep them in line when she needs to.

Doggie tails.

Both dogs and puppies use their tails to communicate. When their tail wagging crazily, they are happy, excited, and enjoying themselves. When a canine is fearful, it will tuck their tail between their legs.

Have you heard the saying “tail between legs”?

After a mother scolds her son she may say that her son has retreated to his room with his tail between his legs. This means that her son is frightened or embarrassed. This popular saying is actually referring to the way in which a dog tucks his tail between his legs when he is scolded.
