Michael J Fox reunites with Christopher Lloyd & ‘Back to the Future’ fans are very emotional about it

If you’re a teenager in the mid-80s, there’s a bigger chance you were a fan of Back to the Future – or, shall we say, still IS a fan! As a fan, you’re probably one who gushed over this heartwarming moment at the New York Comic Con.

A Look Back on Back to the Future

Back to the Future was a well-loved movie franchise that created waves in pop culture during the 80s. The movie was released in 1985 and had two sequels – Back to the Future Part II (1989) and Back to the Future Part III (1990). The franchise also had a two-season television series from 91 to 92.

Children, teenagers, and adults alike will never forget the film’s two main characters. Christopher Lloyd played the eccentric Dr. Emmett Brown, while Michael J. Foxx played the teenage guy Martin “Marty” McFly.

Fans of the entire franchise had a fantastic childhood following the adventures of Doc and Marty. That’s why the New York Comic Con brought in a lot of nostalgia that touched the hearts of many.

A Heartfelt Reunion

Christopher Lloyd and Michael J. Foxx guested at the New York Comic Con last October 8. It brought back so many memories for the fans of the franchise. Who would ever forget Doctor Emmett Brown, Martin “Marty” McFly, and their crazy adventures?

But what pulled the fans’ heartstrings was the moment Michael J. Foxx was called on stage. People saw how his illness caught up with him, yet his optimism and strength shone through as he welcomed his dear friend, Christopher Lloyd.

The two shared a heartwarming hug when the two met at the center stage, which garnered thundering applause from the audience. The conference continued as the two iconic stars answered fan questions about their time together in the Back to the Future Franchise.

Fans’ Reactions

This moment also captured the hearts of the netizens. A now-deleted tweet by @WUTangKids garnered nearly 10 million views, much to the delight of the fans.

Tweets flooded about that moment. It brought back so many memories that took them back to the past. One fan wrote:

“If you were a teenager in 1985, then Michael J. Fox was your guy. Marty McFly in Back to the Future is the coolest teenager in cinema history.
Watching him hug Christopher Lloyd like this is so beautiful.

Another fan tweeted this then-and-now photo of the iconic duo, saying that these two would always be in their hearts.

However, some fans also took notice of Michael J. Fox’s health decline. Something that he addressed during the conference saying that he treated the illness as a gift since it showed him the people who meant so much to him.

Michael J. Foxx’s Health Issue

Michael was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 1991. He was only 29 then and at the peak of his career. The doctors told him he’d be lucky if he could continue his career for ten more years.

However, this news never dampened Michael’s spirits. It even sparked a new sense of optimism in him. He launched the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. He eventually decided to retire from acting in 2020 – far more than the doctor predicted he would last in his career.
